With a lot of choices offered by Fantastico, which CMS works for you? Which is best?
Updating web contents is perhaps too much for web devlopers/programmers to do. I hope someone shares my dilemma of how to provide website owners the ability to update the contents of their website by themselves with the consideration that he or she it not very knowledgeable of html.
So far, making a simple one from scratch worked for me for a particular site I developed. But I wouldn't want to do it over and over again for every site knowing easy to install CMS is available. I haven't tried any CMS in Fantastico yet. I hope this thread wil help me narrow down the choices.

Perhaps you could MAKE you CMS a free public one that is easy to install?
I made mine and piggybacked it onto a phpbb database - it works really well.

The one I made is an add-on for a website running using asp. And it's not much of a customizable CMS. It's more of a simple set of forms designed to post new contents in the website which is pre-set to the clients specific needs.

For a while I used PHPNuke. I found it easy to use and very customizable.
However, apparently there are many issues that people have had with PHPNuke. Another good alternative could be PostNuke but I have never tried that.

I have used PHPNuke and Wordpress.
PHPNuke was good for me, and I found it a good little script.
Wordpress is more of a blogging script- which is the reason why I used it. It's probably not very suitable for a full site CMS.

among the CMS listed I prefer Mambo Open Source and Xoops .. :)
On the other hand, I don't think Wordpress is a CMS but rather a blog application .. and I am proud to say it's my blog of choice .. ;)
Hi. Drupal is the best CMS out there from what I have found. Its codebase is very modular and writing add-ons is not too difficult. Also, themes and modules from drupal.org seem to install quite easily and without hassle like other CMS.

Is it possible to install two CMS, like Drupal and Mambo, within the same domain so that you could see how each of them worked? Maybe each one in a separate subdomain or would they conflict?

as long as they dont have the same files, you could put them in the same directory, but the probably do, so make one directory called mambo and the other called drupal. They wont conflict.

For me Mambo and or Joomla are the way to go, they are very modular and allow for full customization without having the standard opensource CMS look.
We have done some heavy customization on some mambo sites and they work perfectly, take a look at:
http://www.harleydavidsonpuebla.com
As for installing multiple copies on the server, this is possible, I had once 7 installations of mambo on the same account on a dedicated server without a problem, as long as they have separate databases and are located on different directories they work fine.

As you all know, all OpenSource CMS contain potential vulnerability, because its origin to OpenSource. However it is a risk and I think you will not like "Owned by ***" on front page of your web-site(its very easy way to get off...).
Writing your own, even very simple CMS, will be much more exciting =)
Cheers!

Drupal is the best. Its the CMS for professional business.
But i'd prefer to make my own and have it to get news from my ipb.
